Internet Explorer 9 is the ninth version of Internet Explorer released on 14 March 2011 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 and Platform Update, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Internet Explorer 9 brings focus towards HTML5 and JS standards, as well as support for SVG. It adds a new byte code JavaScript engine, Chakra. It also brought significant changes to the overall user interface. It is the first version of Internet Explorer to ship without an IA-64 version.

Windows 8 Build 7700 is currently the earliest available build to have an early version of Internet Explorer 9, though the application is still labeled as its predecessor.Early versions of Internet Explorer 9 (between builds 7776 and 7814 were locked down and required patching to forcibly enable the new user interface.

It is the last version of Internet Explorer to support Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows 7 RTM and Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM; the succeeding version requires Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or newer.
