Windows 8 Build 7700 是目前可用的最早的 Windows 8 版本，此版本于 2019 年 12 月 25 日由社区成员 lucasm 和 Wheatley 共同共享了 x64 体系结构版本，同时还共享了其服务器对应方版本。在公开发布之前，这个版本的截图曾于 2010 年 1 月 29 日由俄罗斯 Windows 新闻网站 WZor 发布。此版本的桌面、“开始”菜单和资源管理器的截图也于 2019 年 1 月 3 日共享。

由于多种因素，这个版本被确定为 Windows 8 版本，例如其相对较高的版本号、存在早期开发中的 Internet Explorer 9 版本，以及操作系统的若干非用户面向的更改，例如组策略管理更改、现有 Windows 功能的内部重构，以及整个构建过程中代码生成处理方式的更改。

由于它的早期性，系统范围内许多地方仍然将自身标识为“Windows 7”，内核版本仍然是 6.1，这很像所有 Milestone 1 版本。


新增功能和更改

硬件兼容性

这是首个需要 SSE 指令支持才能启动的 Windows 版本，流式 SIMD 扩展（Streaming SIMD Extensions，SSE）CPU 指令集现在是启动此版本的必要条件，这也意味着不再支持如奔腾 II 等 CPU，因此也是 86Box 中首个无法启动的版本。不过这一点存在争议，原因是没有不支持此指令集的 x64 CPU，虽然 x86 体系结构的后续版本同样要求此指令集。

启动管理器

此版本的启动管理器收到以下内部更改：

  • 默认启动屏幕现在支持 800×600 分辨率，因此在此分辨率下不再回退到 Vista 启动屏幕；
  • 针对 Maxim MAX311 系列（MAX3110E/MAX3111E/MAX3100/MAX3222E）SPI UART 添加了新的串行启动调试驱动程序；
  • 尝试在错误的体系结构下加载 ARM Thumb 可执行文件现在会导致操作系统返回错误代码 STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_WIN_32；
  • 添加了 LdrProcessRelocationBlockLongLong 指令，用于处理 IA-64、ARMv7、Thumb、Thumb-2 和 MIPS 体系结构的特定体系结构重定位。

一般

此版本将 Windows 7 RTM 版本中默认的 Harmony 壁纸恢复为早期占位符斗鱼（betta fish）壁纸，即出现在 Windows 7 Build 7032~7231 中的壁纸。上述版本中早期的 Windows 7 Release Candidate 许可协议 (EULA) 也被保留。这可能表明 Windows 8 是从 Windows 7 的某个 Release Candidate 版本分叉出来的。

在本地组策略编辑器工具中添加了一个 Windows 8 family（Windows 8 家庭）搜索过滤选项（以及 Windows 8 操作系统的过滤选项），引用了此项目的代号。一些可执行文件现在额外由 Windows 主内部版本实验室帐户（Windows Main Build Lab Account，简称：wmbla）签名，就像后来的 Windows 8 版本一样，而非在 Windows 7 的开发和发布期间使用的标准“Microsoft Corporation”签名者。

调试

kd.dll 和 kdnet.dll 库已被添加到系统中，这使得操作系统可以支持本地和网络调试。此版本中的网络实现包括 Realtek RTL8139 和 Intel PRO/1000 网卡的驱动程序，但由于开发还处于早期阶段，它尚未实现 KDNET 最终版本中使用的加密密钥系统，因此默认的 WinDbg 网络调试设置（假设存在密钥）将无法连接到此版本的调试器。

随后，在命令提示符中输入 bcdedit /dbgsettings /? 将会显示关于如何设置网络或本地调试的说明。

安装

由于出现 ERROR_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH 签名验证错误，无法在不修改的情况下升级到此版本。若要升级到此版本，必须使用十六进制编辑器将安装 .iso 文件的 0x4EFF19F3 偏移量从 0x59 修改为 0x58，或者在 install.wim 的每个索引中用来自 Build 7746 的 imageres.dll 进行替换。

Internet Explorer
