Windows Phone 7.5 (codenamed Mango, system version 7.10) is a version of the Windows Phone mobile operating system, which was offered as the second feature update to Windows Phone 7.
Main changes
Multitasking
The task switching menu, which facilitates easily switching between multiple apps, has been added.
Camera
Various UI improvements have been made to the camera, along with front facing camera support and the ability to disable the shutter sound.[1]
Internet Explorer
The built-in browser has been updated from Mobile Internet Explorer 8 to 9. This brought HTML5 and improved JavaScript support from the desktop counterpart, along with hardware acceleration.[2]
Bing Search
The built-in Bing Search has been significantly improved, adding the ability to search for nearby places, scan barcodes and more.
SkyDrive
Several updates have been made to the SkyDrive (now known as OneDrive) integration in the operating system. Uploading files directly to SkyDrive from the phone is now possible, along with the ability to attach stored on SkyDrive directly to an E-mail composed and sent on the phone.
Social media integrations
Direct integrations for Twitter and LinkedIn have been added to the People application, allowing the user to view new posts directly from the People app. Additionally, you can now tweet photos directly from the photos app and tweet links directly from Internet Explorer.
Miscellaneous
- This version introduced support for Wi-Fi hotspots, assuming they are supported by the device.
- Voice chat support has been added, but like Wi-Fi hotspots requires support by the device.
- Selecting custom ringtones instead of only the built-in ones is supported.
Updates
Four main updates to Windows Phone 7.5 were released throughout the operating system's lifecycle.
The first and second Commercial Refreshes were minor bug fix and stability updates, which improved the operating system in minor ways.
The third Commercial Refresh, officially marketed as Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh and codenamed Tango was also the third feature update to Windows Phone 7. It introduced new wallpapers, support for devices with 256MB of RAM, quality updates to the Messaging app, app list and notifications[3], along with the ability to export and import contacts saved to the SIM-card.
Windows Phone 7.8
Windows Phone 7.8 was the fourth update to Windows Phone 7.5 and last feature update to Windows Phone 7. It backported a lot of UI changes from Windows Phone 8, its successor, such as resizable live tiles, more accent colors and a new boot screen.
