Windows 8 build 8438 is a build of Windows 8, which was uploaded to BetaArchive on 4 January 2019. It is the last build of Windows 8 to use the Windows 7 sound scheme (especially with the hardware sounds and the UAC sound, before being changed to the RTM version without changing their names).
This build notably belongs to a branch that is intended for development of Internet Explorer, specifically for backwards compatibility with versions 7 and 8 which is evidenced by the usage of the longhorn sub-branch.

Changes
- Elements in Internet Explorer 10 have been updated to match the new visual style.
- New multitasking gestures have been introduced for tablets.
- Picture password setup has been updated to resemble its RTM version.
- Icon frames for Desktop applications have been made brighter on the Start screen.
- This build adds the Adobe Flash Player ActiveX control for use in Internet Explorer in its version 11.3.372.39 to the operating system. The related Control Panel applet was already added before in build 8400
