Internet Explorer 4.0 build 0517.5 is a Platform Preview 1 build of Internet Explorer 4, that was scene leaked by warez group X-Force on 18 March 1997 as a cracked copy and was rediscovered and shared on 6 October 2015.[1] It is also featured on the fifth disc of the CrazyBytes 15 warez CD compilation. The build uses the similar Active Desktop style as seen in the final release, as well as Windows 2000 build 1515.

Beta Site ID and Password
The build was modified by the warez group to remove the check for a Beta Site ID and Password.
This was done by modifying the .STF file to remove the reference to the object that calls IE4.DLL!BIP which performs the check, modifying the .LST file to ensure the modified file is used, packing the two modified files into their own CABs (NASHBASE.CAB for the files used by the Windows 95 version, IE40NT.CAB for the files used by the Windows NT 4.0 version), and then modifying IE40.CIF (inside IE40CIF.CAB) to ensure the additional CABs are extracted.
Therefore, the changes can be reverted by undoing the IE40.CIF changes (removing the two lines that reference the additional CABs, and pack the new file into a CAB), and removing the two additional CABs mentioned above. (This is not quite original, as the original IE40CIF.CAB was signed, but is as close to original as possible.)
This will cause the installer to ask for a Beta Site ID and Password in the same way as the previous build, although using a Beta Site ID and Password for a different build will just cause the install to fail silently instead of showing General Error 57.
