Windows 8 build 8189 is a pre-Consumer Preview/Beta build of Windows 8, which was shared online on 29 October 2024.
New features and changes
Branding
The copyright year in the winver application was updated to 2012, and the older Windows flag logo design was dropped from the System Control Panel applet in the Prerelease(ARM) editions; this change would not yet be properly reflected in embedded and server releases of the operating system in the official Consumer Preview build, including leftover editions found in its respective repair content source packages.
Bugs and quirks
USB 3.0/xHCI
This build appears to have a broken xHCI driver, and therefore will crash during boot if USB 3.0 is enabled. Disabling USB 3.0 for the VM (or from BIOS/UEFI, on real hardware) should fix this problem.
