Windows 8 build 7963 is a build of Windows 8, which was uploaded to BetaArchive on 2 July 2015 in the English and Japanese languages in both the x64 and x86 architectures, along with its server counterpart. This build is also the earliest known Windows 8 build available in Japanese.

This build utilizes a valid SHA-1 production-signing certificate (signed by the Microsoft Windows Verification PCA certificate chain, associated with Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL)) and can be booted and installed on the current date.

Redpill

The Redlock tool can be used to unlock all of the Redpill levels on this build, including the Start screen.

Compared to build 7955, a couple of changes have took place. The Immersive Browser was updated and the power options, network settings, and the volume slider have been removed from the Immersive Control Panel.

Bugs and quirks

Aero

Only the top portion of the window frame is blurred when using the Windows Aero theme, leaving the side borders transparent.

Aero Glass in Starter and Home Basic

This build automatically enables Aero Glass transparency after installing the Starter and Home Basic SKUs, despite product not supporting it by default.

General

If using VMware Workstation versions 15.x or above changes in build 7878, attempting to restart or shutdown in this build will cause a softlock. To fix this, use the Power menu from the VM section.

Upgrading

When upgrading to this build on some machines, Windows will appear to hang on Preparing to configure Windows. After some time, Windows will restart and continue the upgrading process.
When logging in for the first time after a successful upgrade, the buildtag will not be displayed on the desktop. Restarting the machine will make the buildtag visible again.
