Windows CE 2.0 (codenamed Jupiter and Birch), is the second major revision of the Windows CE embedded operating system, and was released on 29 September 1997. Windows CE 2 is notable for being used on the Sega Dreamcast console, as an optional programming layer. Four revisions of Windows CE 2 were released: 2.0, 2.1, 2.11 and 2.12.

Changes

Windows CE 2 was notable for being the first Windows CE release to not be exclusively designed for handheld PCs (H/PC). In addition, several corrections were made that were determined based on feedback. As such, new functionality was introduced such as VGA resolution and color display support, improved start menu and TrueType font support. In addition, Windows CE 2 added support for SuperH 4, ARM, PowerPC and x86 processors over Windows CE 1's support for only MIPS and SuperH 3 while relaxing Windows CE 1's stringent platform requirements, or the "Pegasus Reference Platform".
